Visiting Kentucky Kingdom for the First Time in a Long Time

I have great memories of visiting Kentucky Kingdom Theme and Water Park with my family, and we let far too much time pass between visits! I hadn’t been able to ride any rollercoasters for years, but now that I’ve lost weight, this summer was a different story! It had been seven years since I’d last been to the park, and it’s incredible to see all the changes, both at Kentucky Kingdom and in me.

I took a spontaneous Tuesday off to enjoy some father and son bonding time with my 10-year-old son, Jackson, for what turned out to be a milestone visit to Kentucky Kingdom. Being a weekday, we had a few rides to ourselves, allowing us to maximize our experience and focus on having the best time possible. Last time I was here, Jackson was only three, and I couldn’t ride most of the rides, so this was the first time we were able to enjoy rollercoasters together. We took advantage of the rare opportunity to try as much as possible! We especially loved the bigger rides, including Wikiwiki Wai and Kentucky Flyer, which elicited shrieks from both of us. My son’s favorite ride was Mile High Falls, which we even got to board 5 times in a row – not your average Tuesday! Thunder Run and Lighting Run were some of my personal favorites – I remember loving Thunder Run back in the day, so it was fantastic and meaningful for me to share an old favorite memory with my oldest son, creating an unforgettable new experience for the both of us.

Throughout the day, I cherished laughing with my son, sharing Dippin’ Dots with him (a must for any visit to Kentucky Kingdom), and trying new things. The park has made leaps and bounds since we last visited about 7 years ago - more rides in Hurricane Bay, more entertainment options, and fantastic new perks for season passholders! Our time at Hurricane Bay, in particular, was a blast, and a welcome reprieve from the summer heat. I was extremely grateful that I could buy water shoes onsite, as well – it seems that the staff at Kentucky Kingdom has thought of everything!

Thanks to Kentucky Kingdom, what would have been an ordinary weekday turned into an incredible day of core memories with my son. This day reminded me of the importance of prioritizing these precious moments and making the most out of life. I’m thankful that my re-commitment to my health has opened new doors for my family and me, and I look forward to returning next summer to discover even more progress!
